SUMMARY:

Fender Barnes profits from an institution he doesn’t believe in: marriage. He’s a talented designer, but a reluctant jewelry store owner, thanks to his pop’s retirement. He’s cynical, he’s jaded, he’s not entirely certain about the concept of love, but he’s happy to sell an eager young guy an engagement ring for his fiancée to be—until moments after the transaction when that eager guy is hit by a car and killed, and Fender’s conscience pays a rare visit.

He retrieves the ring and decides to find the woman his customer intended to marry. That woman turns out to be Ginger Stevens, twenty-something ski instructor, who—despite being full of guilt and self-doubt after the death of her boyfriend—is someone Fender finds he quite enjoys being around. He’s smitten.

Which is all well and good, except that after he meets her, Fender can’t do it. Though it’s right there in his pocket, he can’t tell her about the ring. Instead, he embarks on a long, ridiculous quest to find a way to tell her the truth he knows she deserves. Aided by advice from Pop and the antics of his best friend Sam, Fender tries desperately to juggle his budding romance with the reality he knows could ruin it.

Will he find love or foul it up? Can Ginger move out of the past to embrace what the future has to offer? Meet this unlikely pair in Beck Anderson’s heartfelt and fabulously funny second novel, The Jeweler.

REVIEW:

Sometimes, love doesn’t come boldly. It creeps its way in, like a slow growing vine that one day, suddenly, has overtaken everything. The seed is sometimes planted without our permission, fertilized without our knowledge, and blossoms against our will. And thus begins the story of Fender in The Jeweler. This story, by Beck Anderson, is the story of winding love and how one event sets off a chain reaction that binds two souls together.

Fender’s story begins with tragedy, although not his own. In an attempt to right a resulting wrong, Fender sets out on a journey to do, according to him, one right thing in his life. This decision leads him to Ginger, a woman who was meandering through her life. But when misfortune strikes, she is left stumbling in the darkness of her functional depression, trying to fumble through her days with as little ripples in her life as possible. However, sometimes, it’s the ripples that make things more pleasurable.

Fender is amusing in his self-doubt. He is unassumingly charming and endearing in his fumbling attempts to do things better—for Ginger. Ginger is realistic in her grief and inspiring in her attempt to move forward—for Fender. As these two maneuver their way through the minefield of life and love, Fender must also grapple with the guilt of the secret he keeps from Ginger. But all isn’t as it seems, as Ginger is hiding a secret of her own; a secret she barely has courage to admit to herself.

In The Jeweler, Anderson delicately weaves two fragile souls together. As her story progresses, you feel frustrated at Fender, while also feeling his frustration. Soon, you also feel as if you are keeping a secret. You sympathize with Ginger, while wanting to shake her awake. While there are many stories out there of loss and love, this one truly takes a unique approach. It’s an emotional rollercoaster that leaves you teary eyes from both grief and laughter.

I give The Jeweler by Beck Anderson 5-stars! The Jeweler is out now, so grab your copy today!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Beck Anderson believes in the power of perfectly imperfect women and in the healing power of love. Her first novel, Fix You, grew out of those beliefs and the time to write afforded by the worst Thanksgiving blizzard she’s ever witnessed in West Yellowstone. Beck balances (clumsily at best) writing novels and screenplays, working full-time as an educator, mothering two pre-teen males, loving one post-40 husband, and making time to walk the foothills of Boise, Idaho, with Stefano DiMera Delfino Anderson, the suavest Chihuahua north of the border.

~ Excerpts ~

The window behind her gave a spectacular view. How appropriate he thought, to be a full moon tonight, the apex of one of nature’s unstoppable cycles. More or less fifteen days ago the new moon was born to culminate in the spectacle tonight. Light spilled into the ink like darkness, guiding the way, holding out a glitter of hope for those unfortunate enough to find themselves in night’s somber embrace. For him, Mercy was that light.

FullMoon-300x300

Reluctant to leave the room he turned, the candles still burning in his lair needed tending to. With a glance back over his shoulder at her resting form he knew he was falling hard for Mercy Winters, harder than he thought possible. Her submission under the circumstances… her trust… so fucking sweet. A shocking realization hit him, he would go to any length to keep this woman safe, to make sure she never had to run again. What did that say about his feelings? Doubt crept in, was it even possible? After only a week? The tightness in his chest said yes, his mind wasn’t so sure. He’d already bound her to him by his collar, and had taken her bareback marking her as his with his seed, but this feeling, this one now felt very close to love. His hand rubbed at his chest subconsciously, he didn’t know how to mark her with that.

Candles Burning

The words scorched her, rekindling the desire simmering beneath her skin hotter than ever. His detailing the possession of each part of her body, and his intention to devour and claim, to worship and cherish, melted the protection she carefully erected around her heart. She wanted the connection with him now, for him to take from her everything she offered, to lose herself to the blistering pleasure only he showed her.

Hi there. I'm Angel: book lover, writing addict, hopeless romantic, pop culture geek and avid shoe lover.

A bit about me...

I've been hooked on books since I was a kid but it got worse in my twenties, when I discovered romances--the hotter, the better. Growing up in Southern California, with lots of surfer manliness surrounded me, was certainly a good boost for reading about delicious alpha guys and the women who adore them. When I learned I had a knack for telling these stories too, I guess you could say I was doomed--though my path toward romance novelist took a few detours via a concert-reviewing gig for my college newspaper (free show tickets...backstage passes...that was a no-brainer), artist interviews for a Beverly Hills dance music mag, personal assistant work for a record producer, dance club disc jockey, and a lot of fun in the hospitality industry.

These days, I still live in California, and have found an amazing alpha guy of my own who was brave enough to marry me. We live on a street that looks like Brigadoon, with our beautiful daughter. I have the best life ever, and never forget to thank the Big Guy Upstairs for it, either.

Victoria Blue lives in her own portion of the galaxy known as Southern California. There she finds the love and life sustaining power of one amazing sun, two unique and awe inspiring planets and three indifferent, yet comforting moons. Life is fantastic and challenging and everyday brings new adventures to be discovered. She looks forward to seeing what's next!

Book Review + Trailer - Work of Art by Ruth Clampett

In a life driven by passion, famed artist Maxfield Caswell lives in a world of brilliant color and drama, pushing his art and affairs to his emotional edge. He’s stunning, charismatic and celebrated in the art world, but are the trappings of fame also destroying him?

For years intelligent and bright-eyed Ava Jacobs has worked diligently toward a career in the art world. Ava is swept off her feet when she meets the passionate artist. She soon realizes, however, that he’s on a destructive path—one she doesn’t intend to join him on.

In the decadent world of patrons, art groupies, and predators, feisty and beautiful Ava knocks Max off his pedestal. A stunned Max sees something special in Ava and offers her an opportunity she can’t refuse. As their lives and passions collide, will he realize that she alone has the power to heal him? Can their hearts come together to create their own work of art?

Excerpt #1

He takes a step back and pushes his sleeves up his sculpted arms.

My eyes wander up from his bare feet, over his worn jeans, his broad shoulders and handsome face. He’s over six feet of masculine perfection and distracting in every way. A breeze from the ocean hits him, and he turns his face sideways. The sinking sun backlights his perfect silhouette.

This view of him engulfs me. I feel doused in flames and what I want at this very moment has nothing to do with writing. I’m burning for him. I desperately desire to be up on that deck wrapped around Max with the ocean breeze at my back. I don’t want to be his savior nor his biographer, I just want to consume him, and I hate myself…knowing that doesn’t make me any better than his art groupies.

“Okay, I’ll go to the bookstore!” I say, exasperated.

Max smiles happily and offers a wave as he backs away from the car.

He thinks he’s won, but this game hasn’t even begun.

Excerpt #2

We’re a wall of passion, and all the longing and unfulfilled desire now burns brightly between us. It’s overwhelming and stronger than I could’ve imagined…

From this moment on, I’ll never trust my instincts because I completely underestimated this man’s attraction to me. I’ve never felt so desirable, so beautiful…so completely wanted in a man’s eyes.

I moan as the room spins, and I try to make sense of what’s happening as I come undone. The room is hazy with the softest highlights and shadows. I wonder if this is a dream. There’s only one way to know for sure. I take a deep breath, take a step to the side, straighten my shirt and slowly turn to face him…

Reviewer's Thoughts:

*An ARC was given by the author, in exchange for an honest review*

I LOVED this book!! The art world has always been very intriguing to me. While some may think it's "boring," Work of Art is anything but.

Ruth Clampett has a way of keeping the reader interested; Painting a picture, if you will, by her fascinating characters and what goes on in their environment.

Ava has been offered an amazing opportunity to write a table book of Maxfield Caswell, one of the most sought after up-and-comers in the art world. She was specifically requested by the artist, after having a brief run-in, and there is something there, that neither of them know, at first.

Will Ava tame the bad boy of the art world Max? Or will he just add Ava to his list of conquest? Will they only be just BFFs?

Let me tell you, you'll definitely enjoy the ride finding out!

I can't wait to read Book 2 of Work of Art!

I give Work of Art - The Inspiration 6-Stars and deem it "Sexy Reads Approved!"

This is equivalent to a 6-star review! It is selectively given for those books that were extra special to me. Sometimes they moved me emotionally or made me think deeply about a certain topic. Sometimes they were beautiful stories. Most of the time they were the books that I need to own and will reread over and over again because I love the characters and story.

He's going to prove it.

When Cass takes a sabbatical to research his theory in order to write his third book, he enlists the help of a former lover and now owner of the world's most exotic and secretive male brothel catering strictly to wealthy older women. On this remote Caribbean island, he uses his keen sense of observation and research to prove "love" is merely a series of chemical reactions in the human brain—nothing more.

Nicola Barrington~ had the perfect life, married to her soul mate.Ten years into her one and only relationship, her idyllic world is shattered by the death of her beloved husband. The loss of her "one true love" sends her into seclusion where she spends the next eleven years pining for the man she still loves.

Her friends know Nic has much to live for and are eager to see her find love again. . . and if not love, they would settle for her rediscovering the throes of lust.

As her 40th birthday approaches, her two friends succeed in coaxing her out of her emotionally safe haven to celebrate with a trip to an exclusive resort known for "restoring an older woman's brilliant, inner glow."

Caspian’s superiority and logic combined with Nic's innocence and melancholy are on an imminent collision course. Sometimes even a genius has a hard time figuring out a woman.

It's kill or be killed.

Throughout his life, he has been there in the shadows, a witness to everything from beginning to end. Bound by loyalty and honor, there's only one thing he would sacrifice it all for: family.

Never get close. Never get attached. It's a lesson that has been brutally pounded into him since childhood, but they're words the DeMarcos make it difficult for him to follow. Through them he finds love and grieves loss, realizing the world isn't quite as black and white as it's made out to be.

Made.

Teaser:

The low groan on the first floor roused Corrado from sleep. His eyes snapped open, suddenly alert, as the relentless noise seemed to echo through the house. A window. He often slept with them open a crack to let the air circulate, but someone shoved one open the whole way.

His heart thumped wildly in his chest as he reached onto his bedside stand and grabbed his gun. He habitually checked it, ensuring it was still loaded, and jumped out of bed. There was no time to waste getting dressed; he crept down the hallway in his plaid boxers, his bare feet lightly touching the floor, making not a sound.

The second he made it downstairs, a breeze struck him from the living room. A few steps later he appeared in the doorway, pointing his gun at the form halfway through the window. He flipped off the safety as his finger lightly touched the trigger. Two seconds. Two seconds were all it would take to blow them away.

A pair of wide brown eyes instantly met Corrado's. "Whoa, there, big guy."

Just as fast as he'd aimed, prepared to kill whoever was breaking into his house, he lowered the gun. "Dammit, Celia!"

"Nice to see you, too." She swung both legs inside but remained perched on the windowsill. "You weren't really going to shoot me, were you?"

"Yes," he said, no hesitation. "I was."

"Well, I'm lucky you didn't."

"Lucky?" Corrado stared at her with disbelief. "I would've shot you, Celia. Two more seconds and I would've killed you. And then your father… your father would've killed me."

"Yeah, he probably would've."

"There's no probably about it. He would've mutilated me. You… you wouldn't have felt a thing. But me…" He shuddered just thinking about it. "What are you doing here? Are you in some kind of trouble?"

"I wanted to talk to you."

Corrado gaped at her. "You broke into my house to talk?"

"Well, I would've called, but I don't have your number." Celia stood and strolled around the darkened living room, glancing at his belongings. "Besides, something tells me you're not the talking-on-the-phone type."

Reviewers Thoughts:

*Part of the Sempre Series. Review mentions Sempre spoilers.*

*An ARC was given by the author, in exchange for an honest review*

I LOVED this book!! It was amazing to see how Corrado and Celia met, how my hatred for Katrina was still there and to read about Vincent growing up, becoming the man and father he grew up to be.

Corrado, at the age of seven, started to question things about his life and his father's "work". Once going to "work" with his dad, after a specific event, started Corrado on a whole other path.

This book makes me want to read Sempre all over again! This series has you emotionally invested in the characters and makes you want to revisit them over and over again.

JM Darhower did a brilliant job covering the past with each character. She explained Miranda and Haven, explained how Vincent and Maura met and explained the backgrounds of each character.

It was awesomely amazing to be in Corrado's world. As cold and detached as Corrado was, it was vital in his world, especially to be the "Kevlar Killer."

Overall, I LOVED this book tremendously!

JM Darhower is one of the select few authors, where I don't even need to read the blurb of the book. It's an automatic buy and I have NEVER been disappointed with any of her work.

She is a brilliant writer; stories just pour out of her, and once again she knocks it out of the park with Made.

I give MADE 6-stars and deem MADE "Sexy Read Approved"!
