The Claiming (The Submissive Series) by Tara Sue Me - Release Day and Review

Submitting is just the beginning...

Sasha Blake never thought her emotional wounds would heal—that they were a part of her just like her physical scars. But that was before Cole Johnson’s boundless love and overwhelmingly sexy control set her free, unleashing a confident side that she never knew she had. He’s more than just her Master; he’s her world. And she’ll do anything he asks...

Cole’s days of restless wandering are done—he’s found everything he needs in Sasha. Now, it’s time to make it official. When his childhood home in England goes up for sale, he realizes the old estate is the perfect place to claim Sasha as his own, and the ideal opportunity to show her just how much she means to him.

As Sasha, Cole, and their closest friends from their Partners in Play community descend on the British countryside for a titillating adult vacation, the submissives and Dominants alike will test their boundaries—and have an adventure none of them will ever forget...

Includes a sneak peek of the next Submissive novel, The Exposure!

Review
(by Cindy)

The Claiming by Tara Sue Me is the follow-up novella to The Master, the conclusion of Cole and Sasha’s story.

Sasha is the best friend and business partner of Julie, a fellow member of the Partners in Play group. In fact, Sasha is the one who encouraged Julie to explore her submissive side with Daniel, a senior Dominant in the group.

After a horrifying D/s experience with Peter put Sasha in the hospital, the submissive walked away from the Partners in Play group, afraid to continue participating in the lifestyle any longer.

After nearly a year away, however, Sasha begins feeling the pull of her submissive tendencies, and considers returning to the group. With the encouragement and support of Julie, Dena, Abby and Kelly, her friends in the group, Cole Johnson – Master Johnson – is selected by the senior Dominants to oversee Sasha’s retraining.  Cole isn’t looking for a new sub. In fact, he’s still reeling from a devastating break-up with Kate, his submissive of many years.

Sasha’s retraining is just that: re-training. No emotion. Just training. In fact, Cole stresses, there will be no sex.  It isn’t crucial to her training anyway. This is merely Sasha’s opportunity to identify her limits and prepare her to re-join the group, and perhaps even eventually find a new Master to serve.  The Master is the story of Sasha’s retraining. It’s also of Cole’s story. We see him both as the Badass Brit all the subs are talking about, and the tender and protective Master that only Sasha knows.

The Claiming brings the couple to the UK where Master Johnson has brought Sasha for a surprise – several surprises, actually. Their friends Nathanial and Abby, and Daniel and Julie join them as Cole prepares to ask Sasha what will likely become the most important question Sasha has ever had to answer.

I have been faithfully following this series from the beginning, and it’s now eight books strong, with the ninth book, The Exposure due to release later this year. The story of each of the Partners in Play couples has captivated and entertained me. As suggested in the titles, the series explores the world of BDSM, but in both a realistic and compelling way. The author gives her readers a candid look into the lifestyle, while also developing personal and emotional aspects of their relationships that leave me wishing these characters were real.

I am such a fan of this author. Her descriptive writing is flawless, and I love the characters she has created in this series. I find myself hoping that will introduce new Partners so the stories don’t stop.

The Playbook by Kelly Elliott - Excerpt and Review

playbook 0 days banner (1)

My life revolved around two things. Football and my cock. And not necessarily in that order. Being the head football coach for a top university in Texas had its ups and its downs. The ups? Endless women to f*ck. The downs? The politics that came with the job. From the moment Aubrey Cain walked into my office, she turned my world upside down. Being forced to have her follow me around for a month was going to be a pain in the ass. Especially since I couldn’t keep my eyes off of her. The best I’d hoped to come out of this was a few nights with her in my bed. I never imagined she’d be the game changer.

Brett Owens was my assignment. Head football coach for a top college, bad boy reputation, short temper, and handsome good looks should have scared me off. But I was tougher than that. From the first words out of his obnoxious, dirty-talking mouth, I knew it was going to be a long month. It wasn’t five minutes after meeting him, he hit on me. If only I had known his blue eyes would haunt my dreams and awaken a desire inside of me I never knew existed. This was business. There was no way I would be tempted by him no matter how good looking he was or how many things he whispered in my ear. He was only supposed to be my assignment. Not the man who threatened to destroy both my heart and my career. I would follow along with his playbook for now. But who would end up winning was anyone’s guess.

The Playbook is a stand-alone novel.

Excerpt
Reaching into my brief case, I took out my notebook that I had already filled with research on Brett and the university college program.
I flipped through the endless pages of notes until I found a blank page.
“So, I’m assuming since it’s spring training, I’ll be granted full access to the stadium.” Peeking up at Brett, I added, “That includes the locker rooms.”
His jaw muscles flexed and I couldn’t help but smile. “I’d like to really observe you, Mr. Owens, for the first week or two here at work. Really get an understanding of your work habits and ethics with the team and, of course, your habits away from the team as well.”
His lips parted to say something, but Mr. Stevenson coughed and Brett shut his mouth.
“This piece is going to be about getting to know Brett Owens. Three-time national championship winner. Youngest head football coach in college football, and rumored ladies’ man.”
“What?” Brett gasped, nearly chocking on his own spit.
I shrugged and flipped through my notes where I found a reference to picture in People magazine.
“Yes, here it is. A picture of you with two women on your arms exiting a bar in downtown Austin. I believe it was on New Year’s Eve.” I held it up for him to see.
His eyes narrowed and I swear they turned black. “What in the hell do you have written down in that book?”
I pointed to my notebook, while keeping my focus fixed on him. “This notebook?”
When his hand combed through his hair, I felt a tug in my lower stomach that I quickly pushed aside.
“Yes, that notebook, Aubrey! I don’t see another notebook on the fucking table.”
My head drew back with raised eyebrows. I quickly flipped back to the empty page and wrote a note.
 Curses like a damn sailor.
 “Wh-what are you writing?”
I couldn’t help but feel giddy knowing I was getting to him. “Just taking some notes, that’s all.”
Brett leaned closer to me as I covered the note with my hand. “What did you say? I saw sailor written down!”
I flashed him an evil smile which only irritated him more, causing him to curse more under his breath.
Mr. Stevenson sighed heavily next to me. “Oh, for the love of God. The two of you are going to have to learn to play nice. Your boss, Ms. Cain, and the president of the university, want this thing to happen. Now I hope you will shine a more positive light on Mr. Owens and not focus on his… on his um—”
Brett and I both looked at him, anxiously waiting for him to finish his sentence.
  “On my what?” Brett questioned.
With a roll of his eyes, Mr. Stevenson answered, “On the colorful lifestyle you lead outside of work.”
“That was gently put,” I mumbled.
 “Ms. Cain,” Mr. Stevenson started.
 “Please, call me Aubrey.”
He nodded. “Aubrey, you will have full access so getting in places will not be an issue. I advise you to stick close to Brett until you learn your way around.”
 “Thank you, Mr. Stevenson.”
 “Pat will be fine.”
 “Pat, it is.”
“Now, I believe, Brett, you have a staff meeting at noon.”
I swear it looked like Brett was sitting over there pouting. It probably killed him he had no safe-zone to hide in. I was going to be stuck to him like glue. Oh, this made me all kinds of happy right now.
 “Yeah. It’s at noon.”
Pat stood. “Good, show Aubrey around and to the office she’ll be using.”
My heart skipped a beat in my chest. “Thank you, Pat. That means a lot to me to have a place to work while I’m here. That’s very thoughtful of you.”
He looked at Brett and then me. “Don’t thank me, thank Brett. It was his idea.”
My head snapped to the side as I looked at him. That was totally unexpected, and I couldn’t hide the fact that it made my chest tighten some.

Review
(By Cindy)

As with most readers, I’m sure, there is a list of authors that I am devoted to. It’s a long enough list that with new releases coming out regularly, they keep me fairly busy. Once in a while, though, the synopsis for a book comes along from an author I haven’t read before, and it piques my interest.  The Playbook is one of those, and it’s the first book I’ve read from author Kelly Elliott.

The thing struggled with most about this book has nothing to do with the actual story. The innumerable sentences beginning with ing words became a distraction for me early in the book. While I know that is an accepted writing style, it happened so often that, as a reader, I became preoccupied to the point that it became difficult for me to concentrate on the story.

Both of the main characters had me conflicted in my feelings for them. Brett, at times, came off as lacking respect for women, and that condition never quiet resolved itself, in my opinion. Don’t get me wrong, there’s not a thing wrong with a dirty-talking lover, but it seemed like when Brett used them, it sounded crass and vulgar, rather than sexy and seductive. In a way, it felt like his strategy to keep women at arm’s length, more times than not using those words as weapon more than foreplay, making it difficult for me to warm up to him as “sexy.”

On the other hand, Brett’s devotion to his family and his roots was heartwarming. It was clear that he put his family first, not just now, but even more so in the past as he made his career choices.  With the evolution of the story, Brett’s commitment to his parents developed more and more, so that by the time the story was reaching its conclusion, he had transformed his image.

Aubrey’s character was also equal parts frustrating and likable. Fighting to earn her place in a man’s world – on the NFL sidelines – Aubrey is dedicated and committed to her career ambitions. Her resilience with both her boss and Brett’s attempts to see her fail was inspiring. On the other hand, I found Aubrey’s yes-I-want-him, no-I-don’t inner dialogue a bit tedious at times. Ultimately, however, I was pleased that she stayed true to what she saw for herself, rather than conceding based on what others wanted.

The Playbook book lived up to the anticipation promised by the synopsis. It was an enjoyable read with good plot and character development, and a narrative that continued to move the story along. The ending was a little abrupt, but by the time the story nearing its conclusion, it was fairly predictable where it was going, so it was really okay.

Four stars.

Roman Crazy by Alice Clayton and Nina Bocci

Avery Bardot steps off the plane in Rome, looking for a fresh start. She’s left behind a soon-to-be ex-husband in Boston and plans to spend the summer with her best friend Daisy, licking her wounds—and perhaps a gelato or two. But when her American-expat friend throws her a welcome party on her first night, Avery’s thrown for a loop when she sees a man she never thought she’d see again: Italian architect Marcello Bianchi.

Marcello was the man - the one who got away. And now her past is colliding with her present, a present where she should be mourning the loss of her marriage and—hey, that fettuccine is delicious! And so is Marcello…

Slipping easily into the good life of summertime in Rome. Avery spends her days exploring a city that makes art historians swoon, and her nights swooning over her unexpected what was old is new again romance. It’s heady, it’s fevered, it’s wanton, and it’s crazy. But could this really be her new life? Or is it just a temporary reprieve before returning to the land of twin-set cardigans and crustless sandwiches?

A celebration of great friendship, passionate romance, and wonderful food. Roman Crazy is a lighthearted story of second chances and living life to the fullest.

Review
(by Cindy)

Roman Crazy is the first book by author Nina Bocci (with Alice Clayton).

I knew I wanted to read this book because I had the opportunity to travel to Rome last year, and I was excited to “revisit” it through the eyes of these authors and their characters.

After witnessing her husband’s infidelity with his secretary, literally before her eyes, Avery is done. Done with her marriage, and done with the woman she’s been pretending to be for the past nine years. Time away is exactly what Avery needs to find herself and reclaim the dreams and passions she so tightly locked away when she became the wife to Daniel, a man who was obviously more invested in his own needs than hers. When Avery’s college roommate Daisy invites her to stay with her in Rome, a summer in Italia sounds like just what she needs to press the reset button on her life. But the architecture, statues and frescos aren’t the only thing in Europe that attract Avery’s attention.

Avery met Marcello Bianchi nine years ago while studying abroad in Barcelona. Some would call what they had a wild affair. For Avery, Marcello was the love of her life, and walking away from him was and still is her biggest regret. So, on her first night in Rome, when Daisy introduces Avery to her co-worker, Marcello, all the memories and guilt come rushing back in.

I loved the story of Avery and Marcello. I found the storyline to be somewhat predictable; however, that didn’t bother me in the least. The characters are mature. The relationship is mature. Even the difficult and courageous conversations were what I expect (and appreciate) from grown adults. As a reader I was engrossed by the authors’ extensive attention to detail. I could see the streets, smell the food, and hear the sounds of Rome. The pictures they painted with their words that had me right back there walking those Roman roads all over again.
Roman Crazy is more than a love story. It’s even more than a second chance story. It’s an experience.

Five beautifully-written stars!

ABOUT WELL HUNG:

✮✮✮ WELL HUNG is here!✮✮✮

From the NYT Bestselling author of MISTER O, comes a hot and hilarious new standalone...

Here's what you need to know about me -- I'm well-off, well-hung and quick with a joke. Women like a guy who makes them laugh--and I don't mean at the size of his d*ck. No, they want their funny with a side of huge... not to mention loyal. I've got all that plus a big bank account, thanks to my booming construction business. Yup. I know how to use all my tools.

Enter Natalie. Hot, sexy, smart, and my new assistant. Which makes her totally off limits...

Hey, I'm a good guy. Really. I do my best to stay far away from the kind of temptation she brings to work. Until one night in Vegas...

Yeah, you've heard this one before. Bad news on the business front, drowning our sorrows in a few too many Harvey Wallbangers, and then I'm banging her. In my hotel room. In her hotel room. Behind the Titanic slot machine at the Flamingo (don't ask). And before I can make her say "Oh God right there YES!" one more time, we're both saying yes--the big yes--at a roadside chapel in front of a guy in press-on sideburns and a shiny gold leisure suit.

But it turns out what happened in Vegas didn't stay in Vegas. And now, my dick doesn't stay in my pants when she's around. I try to resist. Honest. But the more we try to keep our hands to ourselves, the more we end up naked again, and the more time I want to spend with her fully clothed, too. The question now is...do I take this woman to be my ex-wife?

Review
(By Cindy)

Well Hung is the third male POV Rom-Com by author Lauren Blakely. First she gave us Spencer in Big Rock, then Spencer’s friend, Nick, in Mr. O. With Nick’s twin, Wyatt in Well Hung, Lauren Blakely has hit the trifecta.  I just don’t know how many times I can say “this was my favorite so far” before it sounds like I’m on repeat.

Six months ago Wyatt Hammer’s construction business was struggling. He may be great with his hands (and his tools), but managing schedules and contracts is not Wyatt’s skill set. The best decision he ever made was to hire Natalie as his office manager. With her remarkable organizational skills, business at WH Carpentry & Construction is booming.

Not only is Natalie good with the books, she’ll also enthusiastically pick up a tool when a job needs an extra set of hands to finish on time. Of course the fact that she’s easy on the eyes, and has a fun, friendly and sassy personality doesn’t hurt either.  The attraction is evident, but Wyatt has one rule: never mix business with your personal life. He’s made that mistake more than once, and this time, Wyatt is determined not to mess up a good thing.

When asked to bid on a kitchen remodel for a client’s Las Vegas property, Wyatt and Natalie find themselves in Sin City with all the temptations that implies. One night of drinking, roller-coastering, and several stolen kisses and climaxes, have Wyatt and Natalie waking up with a tell-tale piece of jewelry on their respective left hands.

Being inside the head of Wyatt Hammer was perpetually entertaining. He’s a good guy with a quick wit. There were times when I actually felt sorry for him. I knew he was in love with Natalie before he did, so there were times when he frustrated me to no end. It was clear (at least to me) that the nuptials were not as big a mistake as Wyatt tried to make them out to be. Natalie, bless her heart, would do anything to make Wyatt happy, including going along with his insistence that the marriage be annulled.

The back and forth, push and pull between Natalie and Wyatt got a little frustrating at times. Not because it wasn’t entertaining, but because it was so obvious neither of them wanted what they thought the other did.  Their yes-we-should, no-we-shouldn’t exchanges had me shouting reassurance at my e-reader (for all the good it did.)

Five what happens in Vegas shouldn’t necessarily stay in Vegas stars.

Let’s back up.

How did we get from not kissing to kissing? What was that turning point? Did she lean into me? Did I move closer to her? Details matter. I’ll gladly share them.

Start with six months of sexual tension. Add in two mojitos for her, two beers for me, and a couple vodka tonics. Stir that with some bad news on the business front, and top it with the cherry of Natalie’s hit-me-over-the-head-with-a-stick comment that left no question as to what she wanted…and here I am.

We don’t lean into each other. There’s no inch-by-slow-sensual-inch pull. It’s not a slow burn.

It’s a fiery crash. We’re two cars speeding on the highway of this night, and we slam into each other, crawl across the hoods, and kiss like crazy.

Nothing is tentative about this. We go from not kissing to kissing in less than sixty nanoseconds. Yeah, I don’t really know what a nanosecond is, either. But it happens in no time.

And now my hand is in her hair, yanking her close as we crush our lips together. We kiss hard and rough, fueled by pent-up desire and more than enough vodka and rum to make this inevitable.

Her teeth scrape me, and I growl, loving her roughness. I suck hard on her bottom lip, and I’m rewarded by nearly the same sound from her. She’s like a tiger, and together we’re animals.

I grip her head tighter, and her hands are all over me—in my hair, then down my chest, then along my arms. We kiss so deeply, it’s like we’re trying to climb each other.

At some point, she breaks off, breathes out hard, then whispers in my ear, “I’ve wanted to do that for so long.”

“Not as long as I have. Now get those lips back on mine,” I tell her, and she complies.

My hands cup her cheeks, but I’m not gentle, and she doesn’t want me that way. She’s not a gentle girl. She’s badass and tough, and she wants what I want. I hold her face tightly in my hands, and she practically crawls into my lap in a rush to get closer, then closer still as she presses her tits against my chest.

I’m seated on a stool at the bar, and we are putting on some kind of show. But I don’t care.
My tongue searches and hunts, wanting to taste every corner of her mouth, savoring the vodka and the tonic and, most of all, the Natalie. She whimpers and moans, and I swallow every sexy sound she makes.

This stool is ours. This bar is ours. The night belongs to this kiss, because it’s not a starter kiss. It contains all the clues necessary to assemble the puzzle of where this night will end.

With unwavering certainty, I know what kind of kiss this is.

As I explore her mouth, and she claims mine with equal urgency, I know that I will be fucking Natalie tonight.

Review
(By Cindy)

Entrapment is the fourth book in the Infidelity (not about cheating) series by author Aleatha Romig.

Just when Charli and Nox thought their life in New York was falling into place, a telephone call alerting Charli to her mother’s illness sends her running off to Savannah, despite Nox’s pleas that she wait for him.  Delores and Clayton watch in powerless disbelief as Charli climbs into the backseat of her step-father’s limousine and is whisked away toward Montague Manor, or as Charli calls it, the house of horrors.

Charli (Alexandria) is trapped at Montague Manor. Nox is frantic. Adelaide is now a patient at Magnolia Woods, a mental health facility, trapped in her own mind as she fights detoxification from an overuse of prescription drugs. It’s a nightmare choreographed by Alton, Alex’s step-father, who insists that if Alexandria has any hope of saving her mother, she must fulfill her rightful duties as a Montague, including fulfilling her grandfather’s dying wish to marry Bryce.

If my heart was in my throat at the end of Deception, then consider me completely paralyzed now, at the end of Entrapment. As far as I’m concerned, Aleatha Romig is the undisputed queen of head games. Her characters play them against each other, and she, by extension, plays them against her readers. I feel paralyzed to say too much at the risk of giving something away. Besides, I wouldn’t want to deprive anyone of the same gasps and heart pounding shocks I endured.

Entrapment had me on the edge of my seat from the very first chapter. At one point, about 60% in, I remarked that the book was adding to my exercise routine, because there was so much anxiety, I had to repeatedly put the book down and walk away to breath.

As expected, the story of Nox and Charli continues to twist and turn occasionally in ways I sort of suspected, and at other times in ways that surprised, and sometimes horrified me. The Fitzgeralds, the Carmichaels and the Spencers are, collectively and individually, manipulative sociopaths. Their ability to maintain a pretense to the outside world, while privately eviscerating one another behind closed doors makes them, literally, some of the most terrifying characters I’ve ever read, right until the chilling end, which, if you haven’t guessed, will leave the reader hanging until Fidelity, the final installment of the series.

Five heart-pounding stars.

clock struck midnight

ENTRAPMENT---I'M-HERE
BETRAYAL 1One week. No future. No past. No more. Alexandria Collins has one week to live carefree—no ghosts of her past or pressures of her future haunting her. Reinventing herself as "Charli," she is knocked off her feet by a sexy, mysterious man who brings her pleasure like she never imagined. With her heart at stake, she forgets that decisions made in the dark of night reappear in the bright light of day.   "Some of my tastes are unique. They aren’t for everyone. I understand that.”   Lennox "Nox" Demetri is wealthy, confident, and decisive—he knows what he wants. From the first time he sees Charli at an exclusive resort, he knows he wants her. Although he is usually the one to make the rules, together they agree on one:   One week. No more.   When betrayal comes from those closest to Alexandria, she must decide how far she is willing to go to survive. Choices are not always easy, especially when they involve the heart, body, and soul. After all, Infidelity is a business, and some rules are meant to be broken.   "Is it really cheating if you're doing it to yourself?"   From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Aleatha Romig comes a sexy, new dominant hero who knows what he wants, and a strong-willed heroine who has plans of her own. With classic Aleatha Romig twists, turns, deceptions, and devotions, this new epic dark romance will have readers swooning one minute and screaming the next. Have you been Aleatha'd?   BETRAYAL is a full-length novel and the first of five in the INFIDELITY series.
CUNNING 1"He owns you. Whatever he tells you to do you do".   One year. No future. A past that won't go away. Lennox "Nox" Demetri broke his own rule by making a deal. It may not have been directly with the devil, but that doesn't mean Satan himself isn't watching. Was it fate that brought Charli into his life and his bed?
